a Confluence performs in Washington Park event
As part of the Juneteenth Celebration, a Confluence was invited to perform on stage in Washington Park in Albany on June 14th. The event commemorates the announcement of the end of slavery in Texas when General Gordon Granger issued General Order No. 3 in Galveston, Texas on June 19th 1865, nearly two and a half years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. A Confluence’s repertoire fitted nicely with the theme of the event, as they performed songs that included Shona songs, which are high tempo, percussion driven and spiritual. Shona is a Zimbabwean tribe and language.
